A basic definition of theory can be found in the translation of the word Hapkido: “The way to harmony through body and mind coordination.” HAP=harmony, KI=body and mind coordination, DO=the way. Uem / Yang, or the concept of balance through “full circle wholeness” (mental, physical, spiritual) is the cornerstone of Hapkido philosophy. Using your opponents “energy” against them has no religious meaning. Spirit refers to the person (who you are). Mind refers to emotion and thought (choices). Body refers to the physical body.

We consider all of these schools the Top of this industry. Of the 2,500 plus full time professional Hapkido schools in the USA here are our 10 Award Winners in random order.

  1. Sheila Allan says:

John Beluschak’s American Judo-Hapkido Institute owned by Grandmaster John Beluschak is the best school to his students because of all the time and experience Grandmaster has put into the art. He is constant and consistent in his teachings. He offers advice that is truly helpful on and off the mat. The class practices maneuvers over and over then he initiates ‘imagination creation’ so students know what he knows. GM insists that Sin Moo Hapkido be passed down to generations after himself and his class is proud to do it. His students are dedicated and most of all…cannot wait to go to class. Grandmaster has more knowledge and skill than can be imagined. He is CONSTANTLY AMAZING in class. It is an HONOR to wear his name on our dobok. Martial Arts takes guts, passion, patience and pride…GM rides that wave with you throughout your entire training.
Thank you Grandmaster Beluschak…thank you every single Tuesday and Thursday!

  2. William Urbansky says:

The American Judo-Hapkido Institute, Grand Master John Beluschak-owner.I have know GM Beluschak since 1974 and am very proud to say not only is he one of the best martial’s artist I’ve ever known, but a man dedicated to all those who come through his doors of knowledge. He is a patient man and knows how to evaluate his students and Never belittles them. He encourages his people to do there very best in everything. Not only in martial arts but life itself. Not all can be GM Beluschak, but not all can be doctors, firemen, Police officers, School teachers, ect. and he teaches his students to take what you are learning at his dojo and imply it into your life so you will become not only better at your living but also as a better human being. Sin Moo Hapkido is a way of life. It’s a insurance we hope we don’t have to use unless it is completely necessary, and if needs be and you trained well, You, will be a very hard opponent to conquer. It does take great determination, dedication and the love for Hapkido to train very hard and to be one of GM Beluschak’s.good student I like to say though, if, as your training and GM John see’s you do a move, or throw correctly, and he give’s you a smile or a nod or compliments you. Then you know that’s what he wants and expects from you all the time. He knows what your abilities are, or can be if you continue to train hard. Do not take his compliment’s lightly. They are very hard to get. I am proud to say I am one of GM Belschak’s oldest students. Not only in training but in age I’ve trained for many years with him and also taught at the school. I now live in Arizona but, when I go back east, GM Beluschak and the dojo are always on the very top of my list to workout and to visit my Good friend. I too have my name, degree and Hapkido on my black belt and dobok and discuss with many people of are Institute and I’m very proud of the knowledge that I have gain there. GM always told me: The only difference between a white belt and a black belt is this: the black belt Never gave up! Thank You Grand Master Beluschak for your knowledge and for being a great friend in all ways. You deserve to be in the top 10 and to be proud of all of your accomplishments. Bill Urbansky
